Asbestos is found in many buildings and only becomes a health risk if it is damaged or disturbed

Asbestos is a hazardous material that was commonly used in building construction before its dangers were widely known. When disturbed, asbestos fibres can become airborne and pose serious health risks, including lung disease and cancer. At Dovecotes TMO, we prioritise your safety by ensuring compliance with all asbestos regulations. If you suspect asbestos in your home or need advice, do not attempt to remove it yourself—contact our team immediately for guidance and professional support.

It is not always possible to tell whether something contains asbestos just by looking at it. Items that sometimes contain asbestos include:

  • Inside your home
    • textured walls and ceiling coatings
    • floor tiles
    • boiler flue pipes
    • duct and infill panels
    • Gas/Electrical meter cupboard linings
  • Outside your home
    • Outhouse/Porch ceilings
    • fascia and soffit boards

We have a register of known asbestos within the properties we manage, where asbestos has been identified. We check this register before carrying out any works inside our tenants' homes, arranging a new survey if the information available is not adequate.

You should not tamper with any items you suspect contain asbestos. If in doubt, please call the Housing Office on 01902 552780.
